Equipment and grooming supplies
- Saddles – usually purchased used from a tack shop or individual
- Saddle blankets, halters, lead ropes are purchased on-line or at local store with the Weaver brand being most popular
- Grooming supplies such as brushes, combs, shampoo & conditioner, mane & tail detangler are usually bought locally or on-line
Health and preventive needs
- The most important things are to locate an Equine Veterinarian that services your area and a well recommended Ferrier to keep their hooves healthy
- Your vet will suggest any vaccinations or other tests that are required
- You will want to use a dewormer every 6 months these can be purchased at your local feed store or the vet
- Your animals will need a salt/mineral block especially in the warmer months I usually purchase these at the local feed store
- Occasionally your donkey/horse will get a cut or abrasion either from play biting or a limb brushing against them we always keep in our supplies the following:

- Body Brush
- Grooming Mitt
- Comb
- Hoof Pick
- Shedding Blade
Hay, Feed, and Other Nutrients
- Hay: Donkeys need Coastal Hay it is low in fats and proteins any other would be too rich for them to digest check with your local feed store
- Grain: once again you do not want one that has a high fat and protein content and they do not require a large amount given every day. Check with your vet if you are unsure or most feedstore staff are knowledgeable in this area.
